Lindsay's has been in South Austin for a long time. Years ago they used to be just south of Riverside on South 1st.

Cardinal Lane
Cardinal Lane was just off of South 1st Street. The view here is up the hill from South 2nd Street. The Pannells and the Hoffmans lived at the top of the hill. I lost a lot of hide on that hill. We made little vehicles with rope steering and drove down the hill. On time the rope broke on me and I went straight into the hillside that was there back in those days. When skateboards came out, it was just crazy going down that hill. I never made it all the way on a skateboard, crashed every time. When it iced, the hill became our sled. Used cut up cardboard boxes to slide down on. Crashed most of the time going down that hill. I love to drive back into the neighborhood and look at that old hill. Fun times minus the bumps and bruises.

What used to be at this location?
It looks like an Austin Pizza now but it has had many many reincarnations. This is where I remember a Kirschner's Fried Chicken.

Corner of Redd and Manchaca..
I keep thinking this was a Berts BBQ back in the old days. It is right across the street from Joslin.

An Austin Original Cecil Perkins --- His legacy
Cecil is my mother-in-laws first cousin. He is quite the individual and I could listen to him for hours. He was in the real estate business in the 60's. His office was on the south side of Ben White between South 1st and South Congress. His firm was called Big Volume Perkins. He also did a little subdivision development. In this neighborhood he left his legacy forever. His wife's name is Mozelle, his name is Cecil and the last name is Perkins. This will always be there. Interesting tidbit about South Austin....
